The only water-based moisturizing lubricant made from New Zealand Kiwi Vine Extract that supplements the body’s natural lubrication. SYLK is not made with parabens, harsh chemicals, hormones, animal products, fragrances, artificial colors or flavors. While comparable products on the market can be sticky or tacky and cause itching, burning, and other unpleasant discomforts, SYLK’s proprietary formula is designed to mimic the body’s lubrication for gentle, safe lubrication. Finally!
How is SYLK different from other lubricants?
We’re so glad you asked! SYLK is the only water-based moisturizing lubricant made with New Zealand kiwifruit vine extract. The vine extract replicates the vagina’s natural, healthy pH balance and is very similar to natural lubrication. Combined with 7 other ingredients, SYLK is designed to mimic the body’s natural lubrication and feels oh-so smooth.
What is SYLK made with?
Kiwifruit vine extract – (Polysaccharides) The Kiwifruit Vine extract yields a high amount of pectic polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are polymeric carbohydrate molecules. When extracted from the kiwi vine, polysaccharides are “film-like” and provide an exceptional form of lubrication and are similar to the natural lubricant produced by the body.
Potassium Sorbate – Is a compound derived from fruits and vegetables. PS prolongs the shelf life of SYLK and inhibits harmful bacteria from forming in the product.
Citric Acid and Sodium Citrate – Are intended to lower the pH of SYLK.
Flavonoids (Grapefruit Seed Extract, GSE) – Contains the flavone naringen. Flavonoids are groups of plant metabolites that are found in many fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids have been reported to have anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activities.
Xanthan gum – is a widely used food-grade ingredient used as a thickening agent.
Vegetable glycerin: is a humectant, which is a substance that attracts moisture to the skin. **See our FAQ on glycerin**
Other Ingredients: Deionized Water
What is SYLK not made with?
Petroleum or petroleum-based ingredients. These ingredients can coat the skin with a barrier that interferes with its normal functions and permeability.
Parabens. Parabens are common chemical preservatives found in everything from food to shampoo. They have been used by cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies for many years and are considered safe. In recent years, some research has suggested parabens disrupt hormones in people and the environment, and they have been found in cancer tumours. Many consumers now choose to buy paraben free products.
Propylene glycol. This potentially toxic ingredient may cause some women to experience tissue irritation (chemical also found in some types of antifreeze).
Hydroxides. Commonly found in lubricants for pH balance, these ingredients are so powerful they are used in cleaners and are strong irritants.
SYLK is FDA cleared as a class II medical device. Does it require a prescription?
Prescription is not needed 🙂
What is the pH of SYLK? Why is this important?
SYLK® has a pH between 4.4 and 4.7, which is similar to normal vaginal pH of 3.5-4.5. Normal vaginal pH indicates that there is the right amount of good bacteria (lactobacilli), and no overgrowth of the bad bacteria that can cause odor, irritation and sometimes infection. Afterall, life’s all about balance, right?!
I have heard to avoid lubricants with glycerin. Should I?
Many women believe that glycerin increases their risk for yeast infections. However, there is limited data to support this fact. The most important factors that can alter the vaginal environment are two things called osmolality and pH.
So here’s the bottom line: If the osmolality and pH of your lubricant are acceptable and in-balance, the insignificant amount of glycerin in the product is inconsequential.
SYLK is an FDA Cleared product and each batch is reliably and consistently tested to ensure that it is in the acceptable ranges for osmolality and pH according to the World Health Organization.
Is SYLK safe to use with condoms?
SYLK is a gentle water- based lubricant and compatible with latex, polyisoprene, and polyurethane condoms.
Is SYLK Flavored or scented?
Nope! SYLK does not have any added flavors or fragrances.
Is SYLK safe to ingest?
Oh Yeah! See our ingredients FAQ for what’s in SYLK!
Is SYLK safe to use while pregnant and breastfeeding? What if I am trying to conceive?
SYLK is safe and can be used throughout pregnancy and while breastfeeding. While SYLK is not a spermicide and does not harm you, the pH balance of SYLK can affect the movement of sperm (like many other lubricants) and is not recommended to use while trying to conceive.
We always recommend speaking with your doctor before using any products during pregnancy.
I have a kiwi allergy. Can I use SYLK?
SYLK is made with the kiwi vine, not the fruit so this should not be a problem. However, we recommend a patch test on your inner arm/wrist just to be safe.
Is SYLK sticky?
No way! SYLK’s proprietary ingredient, the kiwifruit vine extract, is truly nature’s wonder ingredient for personal lubricants. It’s what gives SYLK its slick, film-like texture without leaving a sticky or tacky residue. Simply wash with water or a damp cloth, or leave to dry.
Does SYLK Dry Out Quickly?
Nope! Generally, one application is enough as SYLK’s slipperiness reactivates when it comes into contact with your body’s own moisture. Should you wish to boost your glide (or have an extended “session”), add a little water or a second application. Wetter is better, after all 😉
Can men use SYLK?
Yes, SYLK is a water-based lubricant that can be used by men with or without a partner.
How should I store SYLK?
SYLK should be stored at room temperature about 66-77°F (19-25°C) and out of direct sunlight. Be sure to close the cap for purity.
